It’s amazing how inept spez has proven to be, and that’s after most people had developed a pretty negative opinion of him. The CEO of a community-driven company really cannot be an anti-social megalomaniac and have the company survive.

Is behavior is crazy and dumb. He could lie about not thinking it’s unreasonable but accusing Christian of blackmail has just fueled this fire

eh unfortunately I think he’ll be fine and so will reddit. The public has a tendency to forget these things pretty quick. Hasbro did things just a few short months ago many would have thought unthinkable or the end of them. But people just forgot and moved on.

It they had just kept their mouths shut and taken their lumps, it would have blown over by now.

But the ego on Spez is apparently incapable of tolerating the fact that someone on the internet might disagree with him, so he keeps doubling down and making everything exponentially worse. To the point where people like me, who couldn’t give two bits about 3rd party Reddit apps or API or pricing, are so disgusted by their behavior that they look for alternatives.

how can Reddit enforce that users can’t use their own API key? LIke what?

Like, I understand the dev not wanting to pursue this further but if Reddit is going to keep a free API key available with 100/requests per minute or whatever it is…in what world is Reddit able to enforce how users consume the data they receive from their own API key? Like, using the data for financial gain or research purposes would be one thing but just…consuming it using a different frontend?

This is definitely not going to court, but if I was a lawyer I would be foaming at the mouth for this defamation/libel case. This would be such an easy win, with a potentially massive payout and the double win of simultaneously killing off that formerly useful site once and for all.
