    That looked both scary and extremely uncomfortable. Sounds like a good student for owning up to the pre-flight mistake.

    How fast do you think the wind was hitting her face? I know next to nothing about planes

      The cruising speed is 170 knots (196 mph) and the landing approach speed is 89 knots (102 mph). I’d bet it was at least 150+ mph when the canopy opened.

    Looked like it happened right after takeoff. Can’t imagine what it would be like an hour away from an airstrip at 5000 ft.

    Also, fortunate not to get hit in the face by insects when near ground. Have seen it happen to passengers in convertibles going 60. No fun.
