Repost because original post got deleted due to missing YSK in the title. You should know why so so much software you use is so awful, and this article (partly) explains it.
Imaginary Problems Are the Root of Bad Software
Looks over at NFTs
Interesting read thanks. I know I’ve made up problems for myself to solve in the past because my actual task has been too boring
YSK: you can edit titles too ;)
No I tried that, and found that the post was deleted by a mod. So I had to start over. I guess it is too early to start griping about power mods though.
Oh alright
I don’t quite agree with parts of the article, although certainly many of the descriptions of how processes work are spot on.
At the beginning there’s a description of developers who focus on the wrong thing, and that process is solvable by creating good procedures to get data from the customer to the developer. If your company is having issues with that, then your company has a communication problem.
At the end there’s a general description of what’s wrong with large corporations, and I don’t think it has anything to do with software at all. Anytime you have a medium or large organization, You’re going to find in corruption by way of pet projects or contracts with a friend’s company, and you’re going to find managers who write memos and have meetings because that’s the only thing they know how to do.
