  • smuglord Reminder that percentages are different to absolute values. The percentage can be a strong indicator of a nation’s values.

You thought you were really cooking with that.

Reminder that GDP is not a natural force, but a measurement of capital’s performance and was invented to argue for lower taxes on landlords. The accepted GDP values are just what each country reports, and can be easily artificially inflated, especially by governments like the United States that includes not only rent, but also a fake rent that homeowners pay to themselves.

GDP is not a neutral measurement, but is deliberately defined to benefit capital at the expense of labor. Percentage of government budget could be a better comparison between countries than absolute values, but the absolute value is also important to understand.

With that in mind, government spending and private investment can be indicators of a nation’s values: like that America values murdering non-white children more than it values feeding its own children and that Britain and Europe are sick of feeding their children and want to invest more in the child murdering.

  • The US Military was pushing an internal narrative ten years ago that China would surpass the US militarily shortly after 2025, and the subtext was that any war with China would have to happen before then.

At that point in time, realistically, China had achieved parity regarding a war with America in China’s backyard. The best case scenario would have been containing China within the South China Sea, invading from Afghanistan, and maybe bombing the mainland with submarine launched cruise missiles and bombers taking off from Guam and the Philippines.

Aircraft carriers are worthless in their war against China. No aircraft launched from a carrier has a longer range than China’s carrier killer missiles.

Newsheads already know that this strategy completely died in the last five years. Parts of the US MIC know that the longer they wait for this war they crave, the less likely they are to win. I think there are parts of the machine that know it’s not possible, and want to shift gears to a new strategy, but will they win against the hawks?
