I just meant the way that they’ve only rolled it out for a handful of ships since it was introduced (in 2021 I believe?) and that they seem to stagger it in waves for some reason. I’m not sure why it seems to be such an undertaking, but presumably they have their reasons.

But yeah I agree, I think maybe some combination of a base list of banned words, some kind of LLM/automation and in-game reporting, combined with human review to pick up on context is probably about as good as you can do. I think it’s a system that kind of has to evolve and improve as you go as well, so probably the sooner they start the process the less trouble it’ll be later on.

I’ve always found the way they’re approaching ship naming to be really weird, they seem to have been dithering about with it for years. Why don’t they just set up a banned words list and let it loose? Sure it won’t be 100% perfect but then they can learn as they go. They seem to be making it much more complicated than it needs to be TBH.

Yeah having stuff that can give you an advantage against other players locked behind a paywall is some bullshit, but at least it’s only temporary I guess. Still a shit move though.

I have the attachment and ammo loaded and it’s never worked for me. My current setup is to just keep the med gun & ammo on my ship in the pistol storage, use med pens for quick healing in the field and use the med gun when I get back for more serious things.

Last night I was swearing at the game so hard, I was doing a loot run and trying to get away while NPCs were shooting at me and I’m just trying to get the hatch on the back of my ship to open lol.

Definitely lots of stuff I’m looking forward to with this update, especially the mining fixes (e.g. being able to output refined ores directly into your station inventory instead of just ships) and the fixes to looting buttons.

One time I was out walking and as I turned a corner a pug was running at me full speed, which is a sight to behold - every part of their face and body seems to be moving in a different direction at once. I was still doubled over laughing when the owner walked past me and she gave me a dirty look lol.

Yeah people talk about them replacing employees, but if you had an employee that wrote reports using random made-up facts if they didn’t know something, presented them as completely true and insisted they were true even when found out and presented with direct evidence to the contrary, and occasionally would wildly hallucinate and spout gibberish for seemingly no reason at all, I don’t think they’d last that long.

Yeah anything I put in /home has always stayed there, and things like customizations to KDE and whatnot always persist. I’m sure it changes a bunch of system files being an immutable OS, but I really don’t think it’d be anything a layperson coming fresh from Windows would ever really notice.

I have a long-running conspiracy theory that Google deliberately makes the UI’s of their various services (Android, Google Docs, Youtube etc.) baffling and they hide important features away so that you have to use Google to search how to do things.

We’ve polished the looting interaction: the “F” prompt will now smoothly appear on the closest available item or corpse you’re looking at, without the need to wiggle around to find the right angle.

Accidental pickups that previously caused chaos, like dropping your fully-modded weapon into a pile of loot, should now be a thing of the past.

These are definitely the two things I’m most hyped for. Probably my #1 cause of death is getting blasted by someone in a contested zone 'cause I thought I was alone and was trying to find the loot button lol.

Yeah I agree, I don’t see how there couldn’t be a significant delay as things currently stand. I’m trying to not speculate too much, but I think we can safely assume one of three outcomes is going to happen:

1. Disney renews their deal, and production starts on season 3 as soon as possible. As OP said, Ncuti Gatwa is in a play for most of the Autumn, so presumably they couldn’t start until after that.
2. Disney doesn’t renew, and the BBC looks for another partner. That will presumably take time, and might require some script changes based on the terms of the deal/budget allotted.
3. Disney doesn’t renew, and the BBC decides to soldier on alone. Presumably this will likely result in a reduced budget/episode count, so will also require changes.

And that’s assuming Ncuti stays. If he doesn’t, then there’s also the extra time needed to find a new Doctor, revise scripts to fit them etc. I guess best case is they manage to start production late this year, so that’d still probably mean May 2027 at the earliest for new episodes to air? Unless they just do a couple of specials or something like that.

I have some mapped to super simple aliases too like e1 to reboot, e2 to shutdown etc. I don’t remember why I started doing that, but that way I only have to remember which number does what lol.

Yeah that was it for me. Just keep regular backups and bear in mind that you’ll probably break stuff at first. But once you get the hang of it, it’s like a whole other level of control over your system.

Also I’m not dyslexic but would things like tab completion and aliases help maybe? I sometimes shorten often-used commands with aliases just for convenience (as an example, I use rsync a lot, particularly the command rsync --ignore-existing -ravwhich I just shorten to rs to save time) so maybe that could also be used to avoid mis-spelling?

This season is making me increasingly nervous because the first 4 episodes have all been pretty good. It’s an established fact that at least one episode per RTD season has to make you cringe so hard your skeleton leaves your body, so we all know it’s coming. And if it’s not next week’s one or the Interstellar Song Contest one then it’s gonna be the finale. My money’s on the song contest though lol.
