Since the real deportations/day numbers have actually been lower than during the Biden years I think this isn’t really cutting off their nose to spite their face; rather the point of the admin’s immigration policies is more aligned with terrorizing the migrant population as much as possible.

I’ve been thinking this (and saying it here) since January last year, and so far the biggest piece of counterevidence is that ICE and CBP have been arresting a lot more in cities than before; but I’d argue that since they’re arresting notably fewer people at the border than the Biden admin (per one of the recent TrueAnon eps where Liz was digging into this, the total amount of detentions has stayed stable, so they’re basically just doing what was being done before in different places) it suggests that they’re fine with letting the same supply of immigrant labor exist, they’re just willing to spend some money to make it more precarious.
