Wait is that what the Blues Brothers were referencing? When they were blocked by a bunch of demonstrating Nazis and ran them off the bridge saying “I hate Illinois Nazis”. Didn’t realize it was a reference

JillyB@beehaw.orgto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Lemmy has a culture separate from Reddit or is it basically the same?2·4 days agoPreparing for the worst is not a bad idea. If the situation turned sour, I’d love to be in a big group of people prepared for that. But if I did show up like that, I would’ve been 1 of a small handful with that level of preparedness. It wouldn’t have mattered. By far, the most important thing for these protests to be successful is for people to show up in huge numbers. If people feel like they need to be ready for war, they won’t show up and the protest won’t be as impactful. I’d rather have 10s of thousands showing up in funny costumes carrying instruments and noisemakers than a couple hundred with gas masks.
Sketcher is used as the first step for an extrusion iirc but draft is what he wants. It is just more built for 3D models to be turned into drafts rather than making a draft from scratch.

One of them saw a guy grab an AR-15 from an alley and confronted him. The rifle-weilder raised his rifle, the peacekeeper fired several shots, killing a random person and wounding the rifleman. The rifleman is being charged with the murder because Utah law probably counts anybody dying as the result of a crime to be murder for the person committing (a few states do that). They’re currently investigating the peacekeeper.
I’m curious to know more about this peacekeeper business. Were they openly armed? Were they all armed? How big was this group? How were they organized? Presumably the rifleman was trying to start shooting or at least threatening to shoot. If the police weren’t sure of that much, they wouldn’t have charged him with murder. If the peacekeeper isn’t even being arrested, my guess is the police feel very confident about how this went down.
I mainly use this rear light. It comes with a bracket so you can mount it to the back of your rear rack. Then you just clip it in. I hate the rubber band lights.
I’m also quite happy with this front light. The mount stays on your bars and the light really easily clips in and out.
Borth are usb-c. Don’t bother with the planet bike front lights. Maybe their nicer ones are better but the mount is ass for the cheaper ones.
FreeCAD is pretty capable but it’s openly 3D focused and doesn’t make for a great 2D only solution. However, for some simple work with remodeling, it might be fine.

The main point he was making is to point out how the “controversy” around the game doesn’t actually exist. It’s a bunch of made up crap by grifters to make idiots foam at the mouth. And it worked. And now these idiots think Stellar Blade is the next coming of Christ and the bullwark against the woke mind virus games blah blah blah…

No kings.English19·6 days agoMy 60yo dad went in the small red town he lives in. It’s his first ever protest. He recently retired from teaching high school and some of his old trans students that he fought for in the school invited him. He said he’d never be able to forgive himself if he didn’t go.

JillyB@beehaw.orgto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Lemmy has a culture separate from Reddit or is it basically the same?271·6 days agoReddit has a bunch of “call-and-response” sort of trigger words and phrases, along with canned responses to a situation, repeated in-jokes, etc which made a lot of the site feel bloated and samey. Definitely the comments are much sparser here but there’s none of that. Anytime I Google something and check a reddit thread for answers, I’m shocked at how easily any thread can turn into some blown up debate about something stupid. In general that doesn’t happen here.
On the other hand, this is a pretty leftists-only echo chamber which narrows perspective. I went to the no kings protest today. If you believe Lemmy, I should have brought thrifted clothes, a 3M respirator, milk of magnesia, a first aid kit, heat resistant gloves, etc. really what I needed was an energy drink because I got tired. Lemmy can get pretty up it’s own ass about the aesthetics of revolution.

I don’t think it’s right to assume that people who block political online content are doing nothing. Hell, I think it’s more likely that people who consume a lot of political content feel that they’re doing something when they aren’t.
“gravel bike” has been a widening category over the last few years. Some are basically road bikes with extra clearance (further confused by road bikes going that route too) all the way to essentially drop-bar hardtail mtbs. I’m pretty sure you would find a bike with the “gravel” label that’s pretty aggressive while still being somewhat off-road capable. If you keep a second wheel set around, you can even convert it to a quasi road bike pretty easily.
Sick. We have a similar monthly ride where I live and I go every month. Always a great time in the slow moving block party
Yeah car sales always drop a lot after the first model year. The people that were hotly anticipating it got it and everyone else continues as normal. It doesn’t help that the right thinks EVs are woke and the left thinks Tesla is a right wing company now. So that leaves…idk politically apathetic rich people?
JillyB@beehaw.orgto Television@piefed.social•Are there any movies, books, video games, or webcomics you would like to see adapted into a TV series?1·9 days agoI would love to see the Hyperion book series made into a miniseries. Years ago, it was announced that Bradley Cooper started a production company and they were taking Hyperion as their first project. Haven’t heard anything since but I hope it’s still happening. More importantly I hope it’s good.

No idea why it missed.
I watch this one history yt channel that goes through the moment to moment details of various battles. One thing I learned from that is that things just go wrong all the time in wars. Missiles fail to launch, radars malfunction or aren’t properly calibrated, a manufacturing defect turns a potent weapon into a dud, etc.

Inflaming tensions and overreacting makes the administration look like it’s tough on crime to his base. Escalating a peaceful protest into a conflict can easily be spun into “the good guys are fighting the violent illegal criminals”. The people that elected Trump want a strongman dictator and he’s happy to show them that. Even the politically apathetic might see the conflict as “both sides went too far”.
