MayoPete [he/him, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•We tried nothing - 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.English6·3 months agoThe average Democratic voter appears to be a coward, and their cowardice is putting us all in danger.
Hell, there’s stuff any local Dem party could do right now that’s legal and would scare the shit out of Reps: economic warfare.
Do some real boycotts of anything attached to a GOP donor.
Mail out flyers to all Dems with this info. Call out the shifty GOP small business owners in the area.
Start pointing out how many GOP elected have been caught with various sex crimes. Republicans are set criminals, to put it lightly.
Or just point out all of the shifty comments and lack of caring from average GOP voters. Print them out. Print out screenshots from 4chan and other right-wing incel forums. Print comments from the local GOP cranks whenever they post shit on Meta or X or whatever. Put some sunshine on who these people actually are.
And for fuck’s sake get off X and Meta and put up actual websites for once with clear call to actions like where is the next meeting. So many county parties are just a Facebook page that hasn’t been updated in six months.
MayoPete [he/him, comrade/them]@hexbear.netOPto chat@hexbear.net•I became a finance bro... and dodged a bullet?English4·3 months agoThank you for the concern. I have a big chunk of my account set aside for dividend stocks that pay me just enough to cover my bills right now. There’s other personal accounts that are no where near my brokerage.
I’d like this to be one of several streams of income eventually. It’s just an awful time to be in IT on the job market right now. Competing with everyone getting laid off from the “magnificent 7” tech firms AND federal employees is making it hard to get interviewed for jobs I’m well qualified for. Not that it was much easier last time. This system sucks and it seems like Americans would rather go full fascist than try to fix it.
MayoPete [he/him, comrade/them]@hexbear.netOPto chat@hexbear.net•I became a finance bro... and dodged a bullet?English2·3 months agoWallstreetbets is removed gambling. What “professional” day traders are doing is very different. Everything is way more structured and it feels more like a job than a hobby.
One of the things that is different is having a trade journal. Who knew it would be the stock market that got me to start journaling? I write down my times for entry and exit, what prices I paid when I bought and what I received when I sold, track my profit-and-loss for each trade, and what I was thinking / why I took the trade. Then I review this, go over the charts I traded and try to pinpoint where I could have picked a better entry point or when I held onto a trade for too long, things like that. It’s more like a science experiment than “throw it all on red” or “YOLO on GME”.
I’m also taught to manage my risk carefully so that even if I lose most of my trades I can keep trying the next day. Wallstreetbets bros are throwing 100% of their accounts into a single trade. That makes for impressive charts, but for me I want to make lots of small trades. A good day for me is if I can make lots of little “base hits” and pull out a couple hundred bucks per trade. If a big profit comes, great! But that’s now how to make this work on a daily basis.
MayoPete [he/him, comrade/them]@hexbear.netOPto chat@hexbear.net•I became a finance bro... and dodged a bullet?English1·3 months agodude I’m up like 1200% of my initial capital since 2020 over thousands of trades across shares/options/crypto in only high volume markets, I know trading isn’t fake, you don’t have to mansplain this to me.
I don’t know who you are and didn’t have that background when I was responding. Very good returns, maybe share your plan so we can learn from you?
How do you know the instructors aren’t in cahoots with the company to run a scam? Can you view these trade logs? Can they without a doubt prove that that is their entire trade history and not just cherrypicked data? Or doctored logs? What if it’s just the history of one brokerage out of 5 that they use?
I didn’t get that far. If I was more interested in the course I’d ask to see trade logs. You’re right that unless it’s a tax return the docs could be altered. It’s just as likely that you interview for a job and they tell you one thing about the company, and then when you get there you realize what a shit show it really is. Been there, done that.
There’s risk behind everything we do under Capitalism. There’s no avoiding that. Everyone of us with a “normal” job is risking their lives every day commuting to and from that job site. Something like 40k people DIE in car crashes across the US every year. That’s not counting the much larger number of people who total their cars, end up injured badly, etc.
Every single real successful trader I’ve ever learned about either give away the knowledge for free like Qullamaggie because they want to teach people and obviously, if you’re a good trader, you can easily make enough money to retire for multiple lifetimes pretty quickly
That’s great you know who these traders are. I don’t. I’ll check out Qullamaggie. Thanks for the tip.
There’s so much info out there online it’s hard to know who is worth listening to. And that second point needs a big asterisk at the end. Yeah, if you start with $1M in your account and grow it 1200% you can retire, not if you are starting with $30,000. I can’t afford to risk a lot on any single trade while the big guys can put down $100,000 and not sweat it if they lose.
That’s why I think signing up for a trading course is a sign of somebody who is too easily taken advantage of for this
Not everyone learns the same way. There’s a lot of reasons to go for an in-person class over learning online:
- Less screen time. We’re already in front of screens way to much.
- I have a person that is asking me questions and that I can ask questions of to clarify things. Much better than googling everything.
- I get to be around people who (in theory) are at the same place as me, make friends, root for each other, etc.
- The learning is structured. Online it’s easy to get lost figuring out what series of posts and wikis and videos to watch and I may end up with some “guru” with 6 indicators on their screen when what I need is a rule set around when to let go of my losing trades.

I don’t think gatekeeping what jobs comrades can have (besides cop, ACAB) is a good way to grow a movement. You don’t know me and you don’t know how much this has improved my life to do this.
MayoPete [he/him, comrade/them]@hexbear.netOPto chat@hexbear.net•I became a finance bro... and dodged a bullet?English6·3 months agoI hear you. Part of what attracted me to this program in the first place is that they audit all of their instructors. The instructors have to be active traders and they have to submit their PnL statements to the program every quarter for review. So the people running the classes should know what they’re doing and have the trade logs to prove it.
Why teach people if you can do it yourself? These people will tell you its better to have multiple sources of income, that it’s a “1% mentality” thing to think about adding more income streams while us working class folks have just one (aka a job).
Knowing how to trade well isn’t an infinite money glitch. Traders that survive are making lots of small trades where they are risking $100 to make $300. It’s way less important to have some “holy grail” trade (they don’t exist) than it is to have a system that you can use without letting emotion get in the way, a clear risk:reward ratio that means when you win you make more than you lose, and some rules in place so that you pick trades with a higher chance of success than failure.
Realistically that means I’m hoping to make ten trades where my win rate is at least 30%, but the win rate can be that low if I can plan to risk money and set my take profit levels such that I am risking $1 to make $3 on every dollar I trade. So a good day for me would be making lots of these little trades and letting small profits add up. $300 daily becomes $1500 weekly, $6000 monthly, 72k annually.
The real trick, and the thing I’m going to focus on starting this week, is managing my losing trades better. When (not if) I lose I need to get out faster, not get caught in the mental trap where I think the trade is still good so why not add more to it? “Now the options are at a discount.” No, that’s not a discount, that’s a trap. Get out and wait for a better opening. My big losses came from me self-sabotaging like this, watching the trade hoping for it to turn around. Hope isn’t a strategy.
MayoPete [he/him, comrade/them]@hexbear.netOPto chat@hexbear.net•I became a finance bro... and dodged a bullet?English10·3 months agoI made a friend at the first session. She is a single mom, around my age, and she got sucked into the Primerica “business”. I was interested because she was talking about doing financial advising/planning and helping people get into 401k accounts, that kind of thing. What it actually was: a term life insurance sales operation where you are expected to get your friends and family onto these awfully priced plans, then recruit more people to sell these to their friends and family. Sounds kinda… pyramidy.
The poor lady really bought into it too. Her background is working class. She needs this to work. Of course the company filled her with this Calvanist “work hard and you will succeed at this, look at this couple with $2M from down lines” BS. I tried to get her to understand what was going on but also not come off as a jerk.
A left movement needs to confront these types of scams more aggressively. There’s a scam for everyone and under Capitalism they’re allowed to at best waste people’s time, at worst really ruin people who are just trying to support their families.

We’re all forced to compete with each other in every aspect of life. I believe the whole “soccer mom” phenomenon stems from colleges becoming unaffordable for working class folks without taking out massive loans, so parents are pushing their kids to do well in sports to try and get those coveted scholarships. It sucks that something that’s supposed to be a fun way to work out and build community is yet another battlefield fragile cis crackers need special privileges to win in.
I’m definitely becoming racist against white people.

I hear ya and feel the same way. Really cool I’m cursed with a brain that needs to map out conversations because I wasn’t given the part that “naturally” learns to socialize. Works great at Friday Night Magic, not so much when trying to pretend I care about football.
