That’s not working. Just talking about it isn’t an accomplishment. Fuck

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon Doubles Prime Video Ads Per HourEnglish2·1 day agoYeah, people create stuff online without getting paid all the time. We literally built the Internet that way. Go back to the early days forums, blogs, dumb memes, personal websites, fan videos none of that was about money. People made stuff just to share it, to be part of something, or just because they wanted to.
It’s only after financial incentives got introduced ads, sponsorships, “influencer” money that everything started getting worse. Suddenly it’s all algorithm-chasing. Everyone’s copying each other, following trends, tweaking thumbnails, timing posts. The content got way more polished, surebut also way more boring. It’s all the same stuff over and over.
So yeah, people deserve to get paid if that’s what they want. But pretending like people only create if they’re paid is just wrong. Humans naturally create. Always have. We write songs, we draw, we tell jokes. Money didn’t start that, it ruined it. It made it a job. It made it about likes and reach and SEO. It turned the internet into a shopping mall.
Now everything online feels fake. Safe. Recycled. All because the moment you attach money to something, people start optimizing for profit instead of originality. That’s the trade-off.

Need more protests to run head first into riot shields. Need more leftist to leave social media spaces wide open. Need more Faygo.
Then maybe things will be different

Totally dismissing the current thing.
No you shouldn’t need to blur any license plate. It is public information. This has taken hold because people who drive like assholes and do asshole things fear it’ll identify them. So they raise a shit show everytime. We need to fight back against that. Pure clown behavior to ban people for posting a licence plate

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto Canada@lemmy.ca•One of the most popular far right groups in Canada is organizing offline: report3·1 day agoUsing the wealth they accumulated to fund special groups and think tanks to further strategize and organize. Groups like Cambridge analytical are used by groups like heritage foundation to advise smaller groups and individuals to engage and capture the attention of a right wing voters calling them to action.
I remember during the clownvoy, individuals were donating upwards of $20,000 to other countries just because they had shared interests.
We’re sending kids against fully armed and geared up police and military and thinking if we’ll do something if we just keep throwing more at them.
There are so many better ways to focus our energy and effort than sacrificing people to authorities
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump 'Doesn't Speak With Precision,' Justice Department Tells Judge41·2 days agoI’m cynical because I think the left needs a big wake up call. We all talk about being critical thinkers and intelligent and they’re dumb and we’re smart. But we have lost everything the past few decades. I don’t just mean politically. The Internet was seized by the right. All these channels. Influencers. They Sid Meier “Civ 6” culture bombed us while we were fucking around with our tech tree.
I don’t see how a protest does anything. They can ratchet up the aggression far quicker then we can. I fully believe the people yelling the loudest right now will be the first to go home when the risk increases.
I’m hoping people do get mad at me. But then realize they’re also cynical and doing the same shit with everything going on around them. We need to be more critical and we all need to be more cynical because maybe that might motivate change.
There is better ways. Fight through culture. It’s insane to think we’re winning against armed trained thugs. We need to do what they did. They pay for these bots and influencers. We need to do it organically. Lemmy should be a generator of this stuff. Instead we’re posting about beans and Ed Sheeran. Like I found a clip with Sam Seder the other day that was cool. Thought maybe I’d post it here. There’s no fucking where to post that content. I can post headlines.

Like we had commercials, but imagine Mr. Rogers stopping his show every 5 mins to sell you athletic greens and test boosters.
This image has a totally different context today then when it was first created
Anyways, these kids will grow up and make even worse and more annoying ads. They’ll be the next Gen of marketing executives in a decade or two. There’s nothing we can do about it.
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto Canada@lemmy.ca•One of the most popular far right groups in Canada is organizing offline: report112·2 days agoWe’re cooked because the left has no idea how to be appealing to the status quo. These assholes do.
Everybody will call these guys idiots and dumb assholes. But these guys will use every tool to organize and create things to spread their messages. You people will come here every day and can’t be bothered
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon Doubles Prime Video Ads Per HourEnglish21·2 days agoNice I love it. We didn’t stop ads years ago. Content creators deserve to be paid right guys. Right!!
Maybe the next Internet we can be more proactive. Whenever that is
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump 'Doesn't Speak With Precision,' Justice Department Tells Judge38·2 days agoI mean they’re in power, again, getting away with all kinds of crazy stuff because they have a ton of support
While we do the same thing we’ve done every 3 years. But this time will be different everyone. This time.
We’re sending kids and elderly people into a situation that these authorities control, they trained for, we didn’t. We’re doing what they want us to do. It’s fucking insanity that nobody sees this. We’re just doing things wildly because that’s what we do guys, we do protest and then… Something? What is that something guys, what is it?
A protest would be great if people were actually organized and figured out counter measures. Instead it’s a chance to bust skulls, grow their budget, grab more power. In a few weeks the protesters will be bored and go home. The right will be far more powerful and have far more content to spread against the left. Content that further brings the average person to their side. We’re going to contribute to them amassing so much more and we don’t even know what the fucking thing is we want out of this.
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump 'Doesn't Speak With Precision,' Justice Department Tells Judge615·2 days agoSure but you all let him. Be pissy all you want every day. But if this was the right talking about Biden. They wouldn’t just be online. They would have 10 brand new American owned company’s selling stickers and books and social media influencers dedicated to just this one issue until every one understood what a tool he is. The left just bitch online but do nothing effective
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Apple just proved AI "reasoning" models like Claude, DeepSeek-R1, and o3-mini don't actually reason at all. They just memorize patterns really well.English1·2 days agoCome on, you know what I’m talking about. It’s a channel that started with AI content and is now pivoting to videos about the riots. You can see where this is going. Sooner or later, it’ll expand into targeting protestors and other left-leaning causes.
It’s a novelty now, but it’s spreading fast, and more channels like it are popping up every day.
Meanwhile, the left is losing ground. Losing cultural capture. Because as a group, they’re being manipulated into isolating themselves from the very tools and platforms that shape public opinion. Social media. AI. All of it. They’re walking away from the battlefield while the other side builds momentum.
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Apple just proved AI "reasoning" models like Claude, DeepSeek-R1, and o3-mini don't actually reason at all. They just memorize patterns really well.English1·2 days agoSaw this earlier in the week and thought of you. These short, funny videos are popping up more and more and they’re only getting better. They’re sharp, engaging, and they spread like wildfire.
You strike me as someone who gets it what it means when one side embraces the latest tools while the other rejects them.
The left is still holed up on Lemmy, clinging to “Fuck AI” groups. But why? Go back to the beginning. Look at the early coverage of AI it was overwhelmingly targeted at left-leaning spaces, full of panic and doom. Compare that to how the right talks about immigration. The headlines are cut and pasted from each other. Same playbook, different topic. The media set out to alienate the left from these tools.
Listen, we’re not supposed to get the context of this. We’re on the left. We’re supposed to argue the validity and logic if we can or cannot smoke next to the pump. Literal interpretations only please.
Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Gov. Greg Abbott to deploy Texas National Guard in anticipation of protests1·3 days agoThe reason I’m so frustrated with the left is because I wish you were right. But fucking hell I’ve seen it too many times. I’ve had this exact discussion every other time. The left are fucking performative and have not conviction. These protests are just to go get their “protest passport” stamped and go home then bitch about things until the next one.
Meanwhile it’s an opportunity for the authorities to go fishing. Police training isn’t what it is to be. They have protests down to a science. Plus they will be able to fight for bigger budgets.
I’m not saying protests shouldn’t happen. I am saying North American protests needs to something more than just showing up to get heads kicked in and make performative acts. Like it honestly seems like they biggest advances in how to protest came from other countries like China or Egypt. I don’t know. I’m just fucking done with it all. I’m telling you in a couple weeks none of this will matter.
They’re fucking brainwashed. They equate just protesting with some victory in their heads. No matter how small, every protest is done achievement
