SCP@lemmy.world•Someone in the main quarters will have a bad headache trying to find out which SCP sent this.
4·18 days agoThere’s a few SCPs I would trust getting a drink with.
Some range from “friendly” to they probably won’t kill me for fun
Come check out https://lemmy.world/c/althistory if stuff like that interest you. Somehow that event which very nearly happened is pretty tame compared to other scenarios
The Broken Masquerade cannon is one of my favorite cannons.
Dr. Clef on Oprah and a Thought provoking tale a lot of good in this one

Genealogy@lemmy.world•Ancestry.com is suing the National Records of Scotland (NRS) to hand over Scottish family records
4·1 month agoIt makes doing anything a pain. I’m lucky enough to have access to ancestry access at my local library but I despise their company and practices. Their prices are insane and they lock people out of this hobby.
That’s the most likely explanation I needed a sanity check to make sure YouTube didn’t pull a YouTube and nuke it just because they felt like it

2·2 months agoI mean how many companies have acronyms that spell out SCP? There’s dozens of shell companies and secret sites hiding in plain site.

This video starting at 19:22 discusses them. The title of the video kinda gives away a bit about them.

3·2 months agoAs much as I hate to say it, personal opinions of the time and politics of the time were big influences in the church in the past, even more than today. We’re a lot more accepting as a society today than we were in the past. I hope the church makes the right choice and keeps on its path of improving its relations with LGBTQ community and keeps to the word of love thy neighbor because its felt like it’s been forgotten at times.

OpenChristian@lemmy.ca•Pope Leo XIV accepts LGBTQ inclusion in Catholic ChurchEnglish
6·2 months agoThe church have altered their policies before.
The Middle Ages saw indulgences being sold, and only a few decades ago were ideas like evolution more widely accepted within the church.
While today the church itself still has the same policy on homosexuality, Pope Francis started reforms on being more accepting and supportive of the LGBTQ community, supporting civil unions, allowing gay preachers to continue to preach, etc.
Pope Leo XIV is seemingly continuing this gradual change in attitude towards the community towards a more positive light.
Only time will tell what happens next, but I hope they continue to move with the times.

16·2 months agoI’m personally not a Catholic and I know they’ve done harm to many people before but the pope is an important figure in the religious world. Even steps as small as this can help many many people.
To be fair to them there was a reason for the whole destruction of the human race thing. If anyone hasn’t read this one yet it’s a great read

SCP@lemmy.world•Does it bug you SCP doesn't seem to have consistent timeline?
2·2 months agoI’ve wanted to tackle this issue myself.
The main point of SCP is there isn’t one single cannon. Is there a main one? Sure the foundation exists and they lock stuff up and study it. But it varies from writer to writer and article.
The site puts it best
“The idea that there is no canon is a bit silly at times. It’s not that we don’t have any — It’s that we have a multitude which touch, cross, and dip into each other. It’s up to you, as the reader, to decide what you believe and what you embrace as the heart of the universe.
That doesn’t mean, though, that authors lack intent or design, and collaboration is the heart of innovation.”
No person should have to go through something like this. I know more is needed but I will hold the families in my prayers

This is in my top 10 we need more local mythological creature SCP.
I know 1000 is big foot and I know Mothman is a SCP any other examples?
