Focus on the gospel. Jesus preached helping the poor and turning the other cheek. Build yourself up around that and introduce doubt about republican actions. Don’t challenge her (Is this what Jesus would do!?), but focus on why you don’t support it (with a heavy religious slant (I just feel it is unChristian to break apart these families. I don’t understand why they have to be so violent). If you can get her to focus on what Jesus preached instead of what many Christians have warped the religion into, then the left is much more appealing.

So, in 2016 I read a couple opinion pieces about the rise of Trump, and how liberal/leftist elitism played a major part because the rank and file of the right felt as if we were looking down on them, and it made me really introspective. Were we being exclusionary? Should we focus more on kindness and understanding? It would be hard to ignore or push aside some of their hateful rhetoric to meet then where they are and help guide them out, but maybe that is what needs to happen.

In 2025? Fuck that, and fuck you. I’ll still vote for your best interests, march with you, vote with you and not mock you or disown you for your past, but you have to swallow your pride and admit you were wrong first. If you can’t do that, you deserve the Trump-dozer that will roll over you.
