Personally, I would rather that we have a variety of different game types and options. There aren’t very many MMOs that make death feel meaningful. If it’s not your type of game, then don’t play it.

Subnautica has a multiplayer mod, but it only works with an older version of the game. Steam lets you downgrade the version, Epic games does not.

I’m not a fan of just setting up a banned word list and setting it loose, namely because of the Scunthorpe problem.
If there is a banned word list, it should be for complete words and not try to find matches within longer words.
Also, it’s generally trivial to get around those lists by substituting letters for numbers.
The best way to handle it would be to give players an in-game reporting mechanic.
If they wanted some automation, they could use an LLM to flag any suspicious names for human review (but they definitely shouldn’t just automate the whole process in the way that Reddit does).

Or deckbuilding like those castle/turret defense games.
I’d have to agree with @iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works, I’ve never been a fan of roguelike games where your next move/ability is left up to what you draw from your deck next.

You can currently tour one in-game at ArcCorp (top of one of the buildings in the Plaza).
Previously, we have only been able to hijack them from NPCs, but we were unable to customize them. You couldn’t get in any turrets, the medical bay wasn’t working, and the torpedo room was missing.
With this, there are no missing rooms, there’s a medical bay, we can customize the ship (choose between a massive railgun or a beam laser, a few different paint options, and a few different torpedo options that are larger than any others that were previously in-game). I’m assuming we’ll be able to swap out components as well, I don’t think we’ve seen all the variations yet for a ship of this size.
We’ll know more tomorrow.
There could definitely be a bug (as always in this game).
I know for equipping the ammo I always have to use the “Customize” option on the multi-tool. One time I tried equipping the ammo to my armor and then “reloading” the multi-tool. However, in a previous version, the animation would play out but the medical canister would never actually load into the tool. I’ve just stuck with the customize option ever since (out of habit).
They have also changed the keybind for healing yourself from the “B” key to the right mouse button.
Yeah, it definitely works. Most people don’t realize that you need to have the attachment and also equip the ammo for the multi tool.
The only attachment broken right now is the oxytorch cutter attachment (well, if you get one that was equipped to an NPC then it will work).
Yeah, the best way to handle it right now is to use the medical attachment for your multitool and have a medgun in your backpack (in case you need to treat any major injuries).
I really wish they had made the choice between the multi-tool and the medgun instead of the pistol and the medgun.

I apologize for jumping to any conclusions and thank you for the clarification.
No worries, I had only heard of StarLTI once before, but I hadn’t looked into it too much. Initially there were a few suspicious things about the site which caused me concern. However, after finding out that Sck had undergone some sort of “rebranding” it makes a lot more sense now.
We do have a rule against grey market trading, but it’s more to prevent direct trades within the community and to avoid any scams that can occur because of that. I don’t want to stifle discussions about grey market sites since that can definitely be an important topic, so linking to grey market sites is okay. Edit: But just don’t link to them in every post.
QuadratureSurfer@lemmy.worldMto Star Citizen@lemmy.world•The Valkyrie Is Not Just a Dropship It Is a Whole VibeEnglish2·9 days agoSince this post mentions a grey market trading site, I just wanted to point out some important notes to keep in mind:
Anyone who sells to you can submit a ticket to CIG at any time to have the ship returned to their account and you would be powerless to stop it (CIG acknowledges grey market trades but they will not get involved if someone scams you).
Buying through the grey market does not count towards concierge.
Melt cost will not necessarily be the purchase cost. Ex: You may pay $500 for a ship, but only be able to melt it for $200 of store credit.
It’s possible to earn this ship in-game. It costs ~20million aUEC at Area 18.
It’s possible to borrow/hijack a Valkyrie and, as long as you park it in your hangar at the end of every session, you can continue to log in and fly it.
QuadratureSurfer@lemmy.worldMto Star Citizen@lemmy.world•The Valkyrie Is Not Just a Dropship It Is a Whole VibeEnglish4·9 days agoAnyone else getting vibes that this account is just here to promote starlti? I was already feeling that way a bit with the previous post, but a second post like this seems to be confirming that feeling.
Brand new account. No comments. Only 2 posts are basically promoting a particular ship with a link at the end that it can be purchased on the grey market at a particular website.
TL/DR: The website has a number of issues that make me think its a
scam site.
Update 2: @shivammsinghh@lemmy.world has commented below.
Update: Might not necessarily be a scam site, but still risky. I did a bit more digging and it looks like the main user/owner has been selling ships for a while, they did start up a new website, the old website is SckShips and the support email is the same as the one for the StarLti website.
I found their Reddit account and they have listed ships for sale before on r/starcitizen_trades which date back over 10 years.
They’re not blacklisted which is a good sign.

The website itself has a few red flags for me. They say that they claim that they have been involved in the grey market since back in 2013, but I can’t find anything that backs this up.The website itself looks like it was only established back in March of 2023 (ICANN lookup and there’s nothing before Mar 2023 on the wayback machine).
Within the same day that the website first appeared they already somehow had 32 reviewers giving them 5 stars on all of their purchases (some specifically pointing out that they used the “website” for the purchase).
When the website first launched, they have a link to a discord channel, but the current discord only goes back to February of 2024. As if either their discord was nuked, or they just started up a new one. It looks like it’s an entirely new discord channel as the earliest announcement/rules date back to Feb 2024 and the first users to start posting there started off by claiming “1st”, “2nd”, “3rd” etc.
If they have also have shady marketing tactics where they pose as players and make posts like this, it’s just another flag that this could be a scamsite playing the long game.
What I think could be happening here:
This could likely be a scam where they sell off a bunch of ships to players, after a few years they send in tickets to CIG to reclaim their ships, then they switch websites and start again. Most likely a marketing account for the website.A new discord must have been created with the newer website’s name.
