Where did this idea come from that small and/or local businesses are tantamount to charities? That somehow communities owe them support?
RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•A lesbian couple was brutally beaten by group of men in Halifax. Police still haven't filed charges173·10 months agoThere are, in fact, 7 states with cities called Halifax. And if others aren’t aware, that republican authoritarianism is spreading around the globe - enabled by their same corporate/elite backers and think tanks. I believe your point still stands.
Nah, there’s nothing interesting or surprising about this. It sounds nearly exactly like the original. Why?
RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How far in advance do you usually plan vacations?3·11 months agoDamned if I know.
RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I ordered my daughter a pizza, something I don't usually do. I got Domino's smallest size with two toppings. I got her cheese sticks and two sauces and tipped the driver 20%. $31.07.English23·11 months agoAlso in Indiana. Pre-pandemic you could get two pizzas, bread sticks and a 2-liter of soda for that price.
RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How far in advance do you usually plan vacations?51·11 months agoI’m required to put in my time off requests by the first of Nov. for all of the following year. So I may not have all the details planned out, but I know what will happen when.
RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto Firefox@lemmy.world•Mozilla is trying to push me out because I have cancer – CPO286·11 months agoSounds like Mozilla is done for (whether or not they win the suit) and it’s just a matter of time before Firefox ceases to exist. You can’t tell me this level of political corporate bullshit doesn’t scream that they’re intent on destroying the company as fast as they can.
RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Construction workers are dying from suicide at an alarming rate, with an estimated 6,000 construction workers dying as a result of suicide in 202218·11 months agoAre they not unionized? If this problem is caused by unreasonably long hours doing unreasonably hard work with no paid vacation, as the article suggests, all of the “trying to solve this” bullshit coming out of employers’ PR departments isn’t going to do anything near as much as shorter hours, paid time off, more staff, longer project timelines, and job protections.

RainfallSonata@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How did you acquire the first 1000 words?1·11 months agoThis might be a dumb question, but the answer you were given that compared to Chinese made me wonder, did you learn the alphabet? A lot of English speakers assume Korean is a symbol based language, like Chinese, and expect to have to learn a whole word by sight. But Korean has an alphabet, and words can be sounded out phonetically. “Reading” words, even if I don’t know what they mean, helps me recall meanings and decrease dictionary use for any individual word over time.

I was concerned there for a minute. Naming your company one letter off from one that’s been around since the 1600s and internationally known for high quality kind of already says you’re scammy and not to be taken seriously.
