  • So let’s say that hypothetically, China actually was going for a mass data harvesting. There’s of course no concrete proof of that, but let’s, for argument’s sake, say they are

    Of the two options, what is the least harmful to an American:

    • giving their personal data to their own government, which has been revealed to have been spying on their citizens for literally decades, and has been known to use this data to target minority groups, in exchange for free software

    Or

    • giving their personal data to a completely unrelated government that will not share it with the west and that most people will never ever interact with otherwise (barring a visit to China or the person is a member of the diaspora), making it impossible for this data to be used against them, in exchange for free software
