However, I’m still more excited about the coming sequel cartoon movie helmed by the original creators than the Netflix series. I’ll happily watch the latter though if reviews are positive. Still somewhat skeptical since the OG creators left the show.

I think that is correct. I think my main adjustment with the new movie is the take on Splinter. They really upped his goofiness. Hopefully he is more well rounded in the sequel vs Shredder. My favorite Splinter is in the OG movies and IDW comics.
