Austin Texas Community@lemmy.world•What’s one Austin "institution" you’re sad is gone?English
1·1 hour agoThe vegetarian recipes felt like they’d been passed down from the hippie days. A lot of unique plates like BBQ tofu, and excellent molé. The restaurant was a nice quiet spot, the service was great, and the dining room had an attached indoor garden complete with fish pond. On some nights they’d have music from a harpist or classic guitar player.

Television@piefed.social•“Malcolm in the Middle” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” have each generated $100 million in streaming revenue since 2020English
1·1 day agoA lot of streaming shows ads now, just like broadcast and cable. If more people watch a particular show, the ad rates increase for that show, and the network makes more money.
The original creators may or may not make money on this syndicated rerun of the show (and dvd sales etc). It depends on a lot of things like what was negotiated up front at the time the show was made, who had a production credit, etc.

Television@piefed.social•CBS Says It Will Develop New Late Night Concepts After Axing Stephen Colbert, but ‘Immediate Profitability’ Is the Focus With New Byron Allen DealEnglish
6·3 days agoByron Allen is paying for the timeslot, similar to an infomercial or a home shopping slot. And he gets to own/sell the ad revenue for that space.
CBS was making more money from selling Colbert ad space then they will by selling it to Allen. They just didn’t like Colbert’s politics/point of view.
I do wonder if affiliates have the option of running their own programming in the slot instead.

47·3 days agoAll that mega mergers create is:
- layoffs
- higher prices
- less competition
- “too big to fail” bailouts
- less innovation
And in the case of media mergers:
- poorer quality
- more censorship
