  • The tip is also often pocketed by the owner because of the way a tipped wage works (basically if there aren’t enough tips to cover minimum wage, it’s as if you are tipping the owner), and also the payment provider (square or whatever) takes a cut of the tip and whatever fees too. Every dollar should be regarded as going to the owner and/or silicon valley billionaires no matter what, the whole notion of paying staff is smoke and mirrors.

  • Your comment after being imported into China:

The chinese narrative isn’t that nothing happened , it’s that there was a battle outside the square, including protesters lynching and burning cops and cops gunning down unarmed protesters on bikes from their trucks. This is corroborated by videos and pictures.

The western narrative of tanks going into the square and gunning down tens of thousands of protesters (after getting delayed by tank man) is blatantly false, as you can see in the uncut tankman video pans over to show the square the tanks are leaving was empty except for some bikes.

  • I’d argue it’s not a paradox because it relies on two different definitions of tolerance.

    • Tolerance 1: Intolerant opinions should be allowed to exist without criminal punishment.
    • Tolerance 2: Everyone should treat intolerant opinions like other opinions for the purposes of platforming, how you feel about the speaker, etc.

Tolerance 1 is basically the kind of free speech principles adopted by most democratic societies and is probably necessary for such societies to remain free. Tolerance 2 is just silly. If you’re in a forum specifically for debating deplorable opinions, fine. But there’s no reason that a politics forum needs to cater to deplorable opinions.
