Maybe they’re followers of a clown religion where Clown, Bozo the is considered a holy figure? It’d be like taking the Lord’s name in vain!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Timing Flaw in systemd Cleanup Enables Root Privilege Escalation
91·9 days agoUbuntu configures systemd-tmpfiles to delete a snapd tmp dir, snapd runs setuid root and blindly trusts/executes files from a tmp dir it does not manage the life cycle of. Where is the flaw in systemd here?
Same with mine. I started tossing that thin brown packing paper from deliveries into a corner behind an armchair. It’s like his own little paper jungle and he loves it. Just have to remember to fluff it occasionally and pull out the old stuff.
Can we make a “Lives up to its name” option for Never Been A Better Podcast?

Technology@lemmy.world•Hisense TVs force owners to watch intrusive ads when switching inputs, visiting the home screen, or even changing channels — practice infuriates consumers, brand denies wrongdoingEnglish
17·1 month agoI only use the internet on it to update the firmware.
You don’t even need to do that. I download firmware updates from the LG website, throw it on a USB drive, and plug that into the TV. Actually important firmware updates are so rare that I’m fine with the extra effort required.

11·1 month agoWhat’s the VPN uptake in the UK these days, considering the state of government restrictions and surveillance lately? If Valve just said fuck it and pulled out of the market, would they even take a financial hit? Or would most of that revenue magically shift to other countries/currencies?

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•New South Dakota law allows voters to challenge other voters' citizenshipEnglish
17·1 month agoState law already allows challenges to a voter’s registration up to the 90th day before an election, if a person is suspected of lacking South Dakota residency, voting in another state or being registered to vote in another state. The new law adds citizenship as a justification for a challenge.
Challenges may be filed by the South Dakota Secretary of State’s Office, the auditor in the county where the voter is registered, or a voter in the same county. The challenge must be in the form of a signed, sworn statement and must include what the law describes as “documented evidence.”
So the “challenge” this already exists but citizenship is being added as another reason. I wonder what the requirements for evidence are or if some county officials will call the sworn statement itself “documented evidence.”

Games@lemmy.world•Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PCEnglish
6·1 month agoMost recent word was Miyazaki is interested in a remake but wants From to do it themselves. From is always busy enough with new stuff that they don’t have the bandwidth to take it. Sony respects this and so it sits.
Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake, but FromSoftware turned it down, not Sony
Now, a new report by Bloomberg claims that Bluepoint did, in fact, approach FromSoft in early 2025, pitching a remake of the 2015 game. It’s said that “the studio was told that the numbers made sense, but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen”.
Interestingly, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Shuhei Yoshida posited the same this time last year, saying: "Bloodborne is one of the most popular asks on my Twitter/X. And the people wonder why we haven’t really done anything… it should be easy, right?
“Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne, what he created. So I think he is interested but he’s so successful and he’s so busy, so he cannot do it himself, and he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you still remember the layout of all the houses/apartments you've lived in? Are there any other places where you still have a "map" of in your head?
5·1 month agoEvery home I’ve lived in, every school I’ve attended, and every office I’ve worked in.
What’s weird is when I have a dream that takes place in one of these, they almost always wrong. When I can remember the dream I can also remember exactly how the space was different from my memories. Of course my waking memories are the correct ones, right? Right? Oh no.

Also vote in every election, not just the big national ones. You’re more likely to find viable third party candidates in smaller local elections. The more local wins a third party gets, the more exposure they get, the more possible it becomes to have a viable third party at the national level.

This one hits a little close to home. I, too, must watch every new SummoningSalt video as soon as it drops.
