This will only be useful if every motherboard manufacturer supports it, which I doubt they will. The PCIe connector really should have been updated to provide sufficient power to GPUs several versions ago.
Running this much power through the motherboard will certainly increase the cost though. It will need additional layers in the PCB to carry an additional 80+ amps.
