I see, so there might be a use case for racing against AI. But I’ve experienced this in multiplayer races against other players. Cars moving back and forth on a straight line, like they are attached to a rubber band, which is a result of bad netcode. Maybe we are talking about two different things.
yeah you’re thinking of “lag”. rubber-banding is the term for when the game gives players farther back an advantage, like how you can not get the lighhning pickup in mario kart when you’re in front.
For what it’s worth, I’ve heard the term “rubber-banding” used in reference to lag. But the context of this post seemed to clearly indicate the design of racing games.
Never seen it as a feature. It’s a bug in the netcode imho. They implement rubber banding on purpose?

super mario kart had it. it’s a feature.
