Why do toys need an update anyway?

Yeah, that’s the big issue. I don’t know if there’s a way to make a safe version of that, but:

But to achieve this [locking and unlocking the cage via Bluetooth], the software relies on sending commands to a computer server used by the manufacturer. (…) These [unique device IDs] could be used to make the server ignore app requests to unlock any of the identified chastity toys, they added, leaving wearers locked in.

The internet-linked sheath has no manual override

Having no way to unlock it when offline is a big, red flag. If you want others to pick your lock-up duration, you’ll need some sort of server connection, but the lock/unlock mechanism should not have any connection other than the Bluetooth (or some other) connection between phone and cage. Even then, the app might break, so a physical unlock is also necessary. And while you’re at it, make it open source for when the manufacturer stops providing software updates. And improve the design because that cage doesn’t look 24/7-friendly to me.

But then again, it’s mostly a fantasy, and at the end of the day, whether it’s remotely locked or with a physical key, if you don’t want to be caged any more, you’ll find a way out. Asking others for random numbers can be just as exciting, I think.

Agreed, but I think it’s designed that way because it’s primarily for long-distance play. I can see how it could be a turn-off for someone if there were an easy way to unlock without their keyholder’s permission.
