At some point something like this, possibly even worse, is going to happen again. Except next time instead of ~350,000 people living in California there are going to be ~40 million and there are now all sorts of dams that will fail catastrophically, adding all of the water in their reservoirs to the flood waters in massive, destructive waves. And we are not at all prepared; it’s too big of a problem and everyone in charge just wants to ignore it and hope it doesn’t happen on their watch.

Exactly this, and it’s a hell of a thing to gamble on too, because the longer it takes to fix the problem, the worse the mess will be when it does happen.

Woah I’ve never even heard of these events. The weather here in California is so perfect all the time, it’s hard to imagine this even happening.

Sacramento area resident here…the winds have been wild. Extensive tree damage. I have 4 ~60ft redwoods on my property and we have lost well over 100 lbs of branches; fortunately nothing got hurt other than an inflatable unicorn sprinkler. The power and network outages have created huge impacts. I have never seen weather like this here…I dropped my kid off at a trampoline park yesterday, it was blue skies but high wind going in, 10 minutes later it’s dark clouds and full downpour.

Don’t use Chrome? (or Chrome based browsers)

Works fine for me with uBlock and all the filtering I like

I’m not going to change what I use for one site i don’t frequent out of many.

It’s just a whine. Feel free to ignore it.
