Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is preparing fresh sanctions for Iran, vowing that the U.S. “will not hesitate” to inflict economic punishment in response to the Islamic Republic’s unprecedented attack on Israel.

Why it matters: President Biden is urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to exercise military restraint. But in the economic sphere, the administration is demonstrating a willingness to retaliate against Iran.

    Thanks Biden.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say they were defending themselves, but they certainly earned the right to a retaliatory strike. Whether the obvious ineffectiveness of their strike was a bug or a feature is up for debate. I, personally, think they knew what they were doing.

As for the sanctions, from US politics, there are a few countries who can never do anything correct, e. g., Iran, Cuba. And one that can do no wrong, e. g., Israel. It’s asinine, but that’s how it is.

Iran telegraphed their attack very openly it’s not likely they intended to do heavy damage. Rather cost a lot of money in projectile interception.

This is defense by Iran. If they don’t show that israel can’t blatantly bomb anything they like and kill top level Generals, israel will keep doing it. The bully won’t stop until the bullied fights back.

Also their targets were the israeli military airports that housed the F35s and F16s for the bombings.
