Other care instructions—highlighted in this YouTube video at 23 minutes in—reveal how delicately Cybertruck owners need to treat their stainless steel electric SUVs. The washing stipulations alone include, somewhat amazingly, “Do not wash in direct sunlight,” “Some cleaners and car shampoos contain chemicals that can cause damage or discoloration,” and even “Do not use hot water.”

While I am enjoying the riffs on that mediocre vehicle, it’s standard auto detailing 101 to not wash a car in direct sunlight. The evaporating water leaves water spots, and the additives in the water (soaps, waxes) can make it worse. Once when I was 17, I washed and waxed my dark color truck in 100°f California sunlight and the wax baked on and completely dissolved the clear coat of the truck before I could buff it off. So one side of the truck was glossy (buffed in time) and the other side was matte (buffed too late)
Sounds pretty cool if you ask me
