I head one of our (beloved) admins (@CARCOSA@hexbear.net I belive) say that lemmy world logs info to discord and does other privacy violating things? If so, that’s really bad. Can anyone give me the full story (and ideally evidence) to clear this up?
I raised these concerns as well as others in the lemmy admin channels and was told I was causing drama and my only recourse was to make posts on hexbear. In the same channels I was personally insulted by three lemmy.world admins as well as three other instance admins, dogpiled and gaslit by the group of them. There were some lemmy admins that engaged in the discussion in good-faith and shared my concerns.
In addition to these privacy concerns I raised the point that the current largest instance was slandering hexbear and me, poisoning the well in regard to other instances federating with or blocking hexbear, prioritizing growth and active community consolidation and with the creation of their instance discord moving users away from the Fediverse entirely. I was blocked by the lemmy.world admins after I continued to ask for proof of their claims or to engage in discussion rather than insult me.
I maintain what I said in our federation post which is do not make lemmy.world accounts, do not make communities on lemmy.world, and I highly advise not posting/commenting on lemmy.world until they clarify their operations regarding data. As of now the rooki bot does not send federated delete requests so you rely upon the lemmy.world admins to delete that data from the discord.
They state that they are using the rooki bot in this post.
https://github.com/hdevelopments/rooki-lemmy-bot/
The bot has the functionality to send posts/comments/user to a designated discord server as posts in a channel which exposes the data to discord’s data collection which is not protected via their https://discord.com/privacy
Finally one of the main lemmy.world admins Antik doxxed a lemmy.world user he suspected of being me, deleting it after another instance admin pointed out that it was doxxing (In addition to me) while I did not save the screenshot itself it was of a database query tool that showed the email the user used to register on lemmy.world, and as far as I know they also log IPs but “are only using it do deal with the DDoS”
That’s worse than I thought…
lemmy.world wants to really be the next reddit so it’s best to just to avoid it if possible
yeah would be good to keep track of the receipts when they inevitably get mad that this info got shared.
