AI-powered machines are taking on some of hardest jobs on the world’s biggest high-speed railway network.

By 2021, improved precision and the ability to work 24-7 had allowed automated rail construction to install up to 2km of track per day

I almost fell out of my chair reading that. This is one machine doing this

Let’s put it this way. California took 12 years to present a HSR plan to residents, and a further 15 years have gone by since voters approved that plan. No section of the project has been completed, not even tested as far as I can tell.

Very interesting news! An excellent application of new technologies, much better than using robots and AI for war. Hopefully it will further speed up the development of the rail system.

Even if I’m slightly worried about the electric engineers who used to do it before

I would guess this is done by a state-owned company (at worst, a contractor), so they’ll hopefully be offered other jobs

Yeah, China has historically been pretty good with replacement jobs, for example former fishermen who now patrol the rivers after fishing was banned in the Changjiang river. Or I may be misremembering.
