Completely different engineering (ZT transaxles are hydrostatic), but yea, it’s nuts they cost as much as a car.
Far, far less material, far less structure, no safety engineering (well, not like cars anyway), and frankly pretty low quality structural design and manufacturing. My family is always welding something back on, or replacing a part.
I find it insane that you can buy a used Toyota Camry with AC for the same price as a zero turn lawn mower.
I’ve often dreamed of buying a tiny car and welding a mechanical reel push mower to the front. Then I could mow the lawn with AC and relative quiet.
