This is a bug I just experienced on one of my manjaro computers. I was puzzled as fuck because cpu/io usage wasn’t high but it was pretty slow.
Maybe this will help someone.
Also, if you are using xorg-xinit, make sure that you copy everything from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc into your ~/.xinitrc (and replace everything from
twm &
with your own stuff). If you don’t to this, systemd will not get $DISPLAY, leading to xdg-desktop-portals failing to work, also causing long startup times.On Wayland, removing the xdg-desktop-portal package fixed the problem temporarily, but then don’t get the desktop portal stuff (obviously)

That’s funny–seeing how this was an upstream issue and Arch users also had the same problem…
