Somewhat related.
I’m from Europe and was a big NBA fan as a kid (who wasn’t in the Jordan era, am I right?). I recently got back into it.
One aspect that really surprised me about the NBA was the fact that owners were the first who received trophies (conference final and final winners). Most sports I grew up with would award the coach or team captain first. I understand the structure of the NBA can’t work without rich owners, but why do we need to reward them over the people who actually contributed on and around the court?
The thought of watching a horrible person like Bezos push a trophy into the air is upsetting to me.
Dolan could have won too… It’s kind of strange from an European point of view but it’s not unique, sometimes at the horse race, the trophy goes to horse’s owner
Right, horses don’t handle trophies particularly well, but I think that’s a great parallel to what opnis pointing out, these asshat team owners think they deserve it before those who achieved it and who are much more special than someone ricb. Asshats 101
I was - not obviously enough I see - referring to trot, where there’s a driver
I understand the structure of the NBA can’t work without rich owners
… why?
So that is how we get a new Supersonics.
he’s the only one who can afford to pay the salaries now lol
He can afford to build a new arena for every team in the league
And then do it again
Only he’ll claim he needs taxpayer support or he’ll relocate, not allow arena workers to take a break, and account for zero profits whenever possible while the value of the team rises.
Maybe when the Celtics move to Cheyenne it’ll finally be enough to trigger a reaction from the public that these monarchs have gone way too far
