Lurata describes her childhood in former Yugoslavia, remembering when political tensions reached a boiling point in the early 1990s and led to war and ethnic cleansing for her family and villagers. After fleeing her home to escape the threat of abuse, Lurata is kidnapped by a human trafficking gang who sell her to the highest bidder for her virginity and eventually, her organs. Lurata’s story is one of incredible human resilience, strength and bravery in the face of inhumane darkness. Her story shines a light on the crime of human trafficking.
