Tanden, a former Hillary Clinton aid who has often been at odds with progressives, was careful to clarify that regulations were not aimed at “shaming corporations writ large.”

Which, you know, grand, it’s about time these things were made less maddeningly frustrating. But this should be a footnote in a grand restructuring plan of…basically everything, at this point, or we die. That they’re pushing this as its own thing, and that this article suggests it as a compelling reason to vote Democrat lest the Republicans kill it in its crib, is beyond insane.

Does “cracks down” involve actually enforced changes to the laws this time, or just committees “looking into it?” football-lucy

It’s such a shame that our regulatory bodies have ZERO bite. It’s very frustrating to me that there are fewer and fewer protections for regular people, everything is sort of pushed on you the “CONSUMER™©®” to make “RATIONAL AND EDUCATED CHOICE®©™”. I find it super upsetting that many people don’t have a techno-wizard friend or family to help them navigate this sort of digital labyrinth of these services and subscriptions. Enshittfication is real and it sucks so much that all or public intuitions have had their fangs removed and then starved and beaten and then we say “See, regulation just doesn’t work smh, I guess we have let the market regulate itself even more”

They will just pivot to contract based subscriptions again, no?

Instead of hard to cancel month-to-month services we are gonna end up with contracts that require a year of service minimum.

What’s funny is that, if they did this, they might actually move generate some goodwill and move the electoral needle slightly. But of course, they’re going to fail to do anything substantial.
