This is pretty tragic to all the Vikes fans out there. Last year was riddled with injuries, this year is as well and we aren’t even out of pre-season yet
He was unlikely to see any regular season playing time this year unless Darnold got hurt, so the real tragedy is the delay in his development.
He was, from my limited exposure to them, a lot of fans focus going into the season. The few I know personally have been pretty heart broken with this development and it seems to be a pretty decent hit to their initial hope for the season. I also don’t know if this was just blind hope that he would start and be amazing or if they were just memeing the new rookie QB as the next Mahomes tho lol
I’m a Vikings fan myself, and I’ve seen the ones who have thought he was going to start right away, but nobody actually involved with the team or the sports media here in MN has ever even implied he would. The absolute earliest they figured he would see the field in the regular season would be late season depending on the circumstances. I think it’s a lot of fans hoping against hope to have some sort of expectation for this upcoming season, but I always figured this was going to be a rebuilding year at best so my own expectations are low to zero. That said, my own hope was that he’d be ready to go for next year and those hopes were probably dashed here.
Sucks for the kid. Heal up and get healthy J.J .
This might be Darnold’s last chance at a starting job in the NFL, if he has something in him this is the season to show it.

Honestly yeah. Idk how if he looks bad in a season that is entirely his, with the WRs Minn has, anyone picks him up again. I guess he could be a Mayfield-esque stop gap with the right team, but even then, that would be pretty optimistic.
