I would like to take a moment to show appreciation for Ubiquiti, and especially for how they’ve handled the UDM Pro these past 8 months or so.
A lot of people rightfully felt burned or as if they were leaving the UDM Pro behind after Ubiquiti released the SE on a newer and more capable firmware. I’ve read tens of comments saying they were in the process of EoLing the UDM Pro, and I didn’t exactly feel great about lacking basic functions like VPN client support myself. At one point I’m pretty sure the UDM Pro was close to a year behind the SE in updates. Many companies may actually have relegated the UDM Pro to a security maintenance fate for a while before ending support, but Ubiquiti actually followed through on a seemingly difficult OS transition from containerized to bare-metal, and we now have version parity with the SE after a admittedly long time.
Although it did take a while to get some of the features I’ve been wanting since day 1 of owning the device, the rest of the experience has been rock solid for me. I’ve never had a more stable networking experience in my home. Some of the other brands I’ve used have needed frequent power-cycles to restore connectivity. This has genuinely never happened with my Ubiquiti stuff. Maybe this is part of the reason I’ve been so patient with the missing features.
