Nah you’re diluting the issue being discussed.

Sure cops at large have a degree of what you’re saying, but these Sheriff’s are essentially placing themselves above the executive branch of our government, they’re essentially in rebellion to the laws of the land while their duties detail that they are supposed to uphold those laws. They’re also using their political soap boxes to advocate in favor of the treasonous MAGA elements of our country. So this is just a culmination of what letting cops get away with no accountability has caused.

Also the elected office of sheriff shouldn’t exist, there should be a better way of handling county level law enforcement leadership without opening the position up to politicians like Wayne Ivey, this position requires established, professional law enforcement leadership, resistant to corruption, and willing to destroy and rebuild the city level police departments if necessary.

I’ve hated Sheriff’s since the first time I learned about this guy, it’s time to figure out a better way.

Have you heard of Judges? They have their own set of rules that are enforced as law.

edit: I guess you haven’t. Well the TL;DR is: Law isn’t just decided by congress. How law is interpreted is decided largely by judges. What is and isn’t law is still up for discussion and Judges have a lot of influence on that. If you find yourself in a court room, you would be well served to treat the judge as “judge, jury and executioner” (The way most cops see themselves) because the judge is a judge, you may not get a jury, and there is such a concept of “judicial rule”.

Bottom line is the law is subjective and open to interpretation, largely by judges, who have little or no accountability.

Judges are every bit as bad, but also no need for the snark, the article is about this sheriff’s association, not judges, so why would I bring up judges when the topic is about a specific sheriff’s organization?

Obviously the Department of Justice as a whole has a whole lot of problems, but these Sheriffs are trying to avoid answering to that, which brings a different level of problems.

The judicial portion of the Justice Dept is obviously going to continue to have problems as long as we keep letting Judges on the highest court get away with their corruption, guys like Alito and Thomas set precedent for all their Junior judges, most of whom come from the very same corrupted Judicial society, the Federalist Society.

Also we shouldn’t rely on the voting populace to place judges, and we shouldn’t allow for politicians to decide our judges, there has to be a better way to get professional, qualified, and non-biased judges.
