Apple is one of the worst companies about being able to repair products. They’ve gotten several bills failed or neutered to not do anything. We don’t know yet, but they are likely trying for a neutering amendment here to keep control over the process. I’d love to be proven wrong, but all we have to go on is prior experience.

Serious question - what’s the appeal of this guy? I have watched a few of his videos and he seems like a regular person (outside of being known for repairing Apple stuff). Not that there’s anything wrong with that, and in this particular case his opinion is worth a lot as it is his area of expertise, I just don’t understand how he has to have an opinion on everything and people follow it as gospel.

He’s a small businessman that actually represents small business interests and isn’t just another codpiece for a larger player - even though Apple tried to do so by making him sign a predatory and wide NDA.

He also teaches people (or taught people) how to repair laptops, phones, etc. He’s lobbied for the right to repair, joining the fight alongside other firebrands.

I only really follow his right to repair stuff. He has first hand experience with that and has kind of gotten thrust into a more prominent position within right to repair because of his videos and Congress testimonies.
