    Explanation: Popular media has a tendency to treat all periods of the Roman Empire as the Principate - the glorious, shining height of the Empire - even when it nominally takes place in a later era. And even that they usually get more wrong than right.

    AnonHistory, the artist, is a big enthusiast for the Late Empire, as one can see here.

    Fantastic. Though some found lorica squamata had tin on its scales surface to give it a bit of that shinny touch (allegedly).

    Love though the detail that the biggest enemy of every roman is another roman.
