Summary
The US is creating contingency plans for potential military deployments in Japan and the Philippines in case of a Taiwan crisis, according to Kyodo news.
A joint US-Japan operation plan, set for completion in December, includes deploying US Marines with HIMARS along Japan’s Nansei Islands near Taiwan, supported logistically by Japan’s military.
The US Army may also station long-range fire units in the Philippines.
This comes amid heightened tensions as China boosts military pressure on Taiwan, while the US strengthens regional alliances.
Drawing up contingency plans is half of what the Pentagon is for. It would be more newsworthy if the US got into a war without one of these plans handy
Exactly, they even have a plan for a zombie apocalypse: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CONOP_8888

You name it, they’ve got a plan for it.
But as they say, no plan survives contact with the enemy.
It’s like the news articles every time there are annual war games as if they were provocative.
Considering Trump is going to be president I suspect the contingency plan us a fruit basket for the Chinese.
Drawing up plans in the Pentagon is a wise move. With Trump in power I don’t see why China wouldn’t make a move on Taiwan towards the end of his term.
Between tariffs on China and making the US weaker globally by alienating seemingly every one our allies he seems hell bent on forcing China’s calculus towards a conflict.
