I’ve held off from updating to DSM 7.x because Synology Photos removed object recognition, a feature I use heavily in Momemts.
They announced recently that this feature will be coming back!
Photography enthusiasts and professionals were not forgotten at the exhibit, with Synology announcing the return of a user-favorite functionality — object recognition in its photo manager. Previously featured in Synology Moments, object recognition will soon be available to millions of Synology Photos users, giving photographers an essential tool to manage and sort their portfolios offline.

I never used Moments but started with Photos right away. What kind of objects were recognized with this functionality?
What kind of objects were recognized with this functionality?
Pretty much anything. Animal types, food types, vehicle types, different environments, event types, etc.
Cool, looking forward to it.
Personally, I didn’t find the quality of Moment’s object recognition convincing and eventually disabled it. So here’s hoping that it might have gotten better (i.e. better trained models) over time… What bothers new more, though, is the inflexibility regarding face recognition results: last time I checked, one still could not remove false positives (i.e. incorrect tagged persons) or manually add face tags. Hopefully, this will be possible in the future.
It’s not perfect, but when you’ve got a photo library of over 100,000 images and need to find a specific one, it really can make a huge difference.
The facial recognition system does need to be improved, though.
Would be awesome. Then we just need the possibility to hide photos and I’m fine with switching to it fully.
I disabled photos because apparently you can’t just point it towards an existing directory full of photos.
