    A hot take, but a valid question. I am not a lawyer.

    This depends on where you live. Some places have a Castle Doctrine, some have an “legal duty to retreat”. There’s also the legality of your own firearm, and if anything happens outside your home, if you’re licensed to carry in public. There could be other ramifications, but your local 2A folks (even the folks that voted for Trump) may know quite a bit about what the rules are.

    If you’re this concerned, I strongly recommend getting a neighborhood watch going. A line of defense outside the home may buy precious minutes.

      I’ll put my trust in a semi-auto-blunderbuss. (I’ll put my trust in a good lawyer over some fascists not leaving my battered corpse in a ditch. )
