23andme sells your results to life insurance, disability insurance, and and long-term care insurance companies, who use it to deny claims based on genetic information (which is legal under GINA). 23andme also gives your results to the feds for DNA evidence in cases, but usually only on a judge’s order. Same for ancestry.com
People used to recommend Promethease, but they got bought by MyHeritage and send every result to them (unless you’re in the EU), so they should be avoided, as well. The bottom line is that any non-medical private company is able to sell your results if they want to, or provide your results to law enforcement if they’re compelled to.
If you’re curious about what genetic diseases you and your family are at risk for, see a genetic counselor and your results’ privacy will be protected by HIPAA, the strongest privacy protection that exists in the US.
Hard agree, I just posted this for the meme, but seriously don’t take these tests
For y’all not familiar with H-E-B, it’s a large grocery chain here in Texas and named after the founder’s son: Howard E. Butt.

My eternal rival
98% English and Irish which was a surprise because the man my mother told me was my father was dutch and German.
Meanwhile on programming.dev and sh.itjust.works:
“It’s funny that it’s almost as if that it’s weird and I like that the Hexbear tankies just proved they are alt-right Russian bots by posting this hate speech. Ironic.”
I wanna know how much Genghis Khan I got in me
Both of my parents did 23 and me (or one of the two) and I officially have boring ancestry. Both of my parents come from the same general region, my father has less than 1% of anything else and my mother is 1% Italian.
I wanted to find something interesting in there.
