If you show up to your office job post in the sticks of Arkansas and shit yourself in front of the the Colonel, and the US is at war, it’s medal time lol. it’s the only one we come out of boot camp with. There’s an old guy in my neighborhood who’s a Vietnam vet; he did one tour in the army and got out. The back of his car is covered in military-related stickers, and it’s front and center when you talk to him.
I’m sympathetic that he was tossed into something heavy at 18 years old, but I don’t understand basing one’s entire personality on, and ruining a nice paint job for, something you did for 18 months, 54 years ago.
