John Bannister Goodenough, the American co-inventor of Lithium-ion batteries and a co-winner of 2019 Nobel prize for Chemistry, has passed away. He was just a month short of turning 101. Goodenough also played a significant role in the development of Random Access Memory (RAM) for computers.

Whoever started using the last name “good enough” must have been an interesting person.

“Hey, you, don’t you want to get a proper name, like Miller or Smith?”

“Nah, this one is good enough.”

I was just about to post this article (Thankfully lemmy warns you that it might be a duplicate!).

This guy isn’t a household name by any stretch but this invention quite literally changed the world. Few people have as far reaching of an impact as he had. Almost 101 years old too. I think he did Good…enough.

    (I’ll see myself out)

It’s well worth reading Volt Rush: The Winners and Losers in the Race to Go Green By Henry Sanderson, it’s a good insight into some of his work with LiPo from a business and supply chain angle along with some of the geopolitical aspects looking forward.

Sad to lose such an amazing mind… but my own mind can’t help but think of this:

Never let Peter Perfect be the enemy of John Goodenough.
