Arthur Terence Roper-Caldbeck.[9] Colonel William “Wild Bill” Donovan, war-time head of the OSS, credited Stephenson with teaching Americans about foreign intelligence gathering.[6] The CIA even named their recruit training facility “The Farm”, a nod to the original farm that existed at the Camp X site.[10]
He is best known by his wartime intelligence code name, Intrepid. Many people consider him to be one of the real-life inspirations for James Bond.[1] Ian Fleming himself once wrote, “James Bond is a highly romanticised version of a true spy. The real thing is… William Stephenson.”[2]
