It’s worth noting that affordable housing is market rate. And social housing is a broad category that doesn’t necessarily mean government owned and operated housing. One of the most problematic elements of this approach to housing is the move away from good old fashioned public housing, like the type albo grew up in. Call me a radical socialist, but can’t the government just do what it’s always done…build public housing. I’m glad the Greens were successful in securing 3 billion dollars for public housing but that really shouldn’t have been the shitfight that it was.
The other bit i wonder as well is were they want wanting to put so much money in cause inflation risk as well as their is no supply at the moment for building. We have had a bunch of companies go bust and the ones who are still going are years behind cause they still cannot get enough supplies. Also massive shortage of builders, plumbers, electricians.
Is it a case of sure we can give you billions of dollars to build a house but in 5 years time when we have not even come close to the target everyone is going to jump on us for it. So do you start small and then work your way up ?

Housing is a human right not a product.
