Obviously the real solution is never talking to anyone ever again, instead living as a hermit in remote mountains with your only friend being a bear that tries to eat you several times a year

This is actually really, really good advice for adhd people. Telling people your goals gives you a dopamine hit like actually completing the goal does, so it makes your brain less likely to continue since it already got it’s fix.

Everyone has some of the traits, but they don’t have ADHD unless it has enough negative impact to be a disorder.

The problem being a lot of people with it might think the negative impact is a personal failing.

Plus it raises the question of people who would otherwise be said to have it but have developed successful coping mechanisms independently, but what else are you going to do for something you can’t physically test for?

Same. I was diagnosed with OCD decades ago but yet I seem to have these sorts of tendencies as well.

@Spurton there’s a lot of overlap of symptoms between OCD and ADHD! Worth looking into but your psychiatrist can give you the official word, of course

No, we know everyone else do these things sometimes. The humor is acknowledging how often it happens to us and our inability to manage them without assistance or medication because we have a disorder.

Because telling people about your goals gives you a similar dopamine hit as actually completing them, so it makes you less motivated to finish.

3 years ago I decided to try making a SpaceX DVD (for fun) with most important milestones. I just needed to add end chapters for proper behavior on DVD players and 1 video. Also fix colors on one titleset menu.
I gave up on it. It’s mostly finished, but I gave up. It is the only reason I still keep the dusty Windows 10 installation on my laptop. I didn’t know DVDStyler also works on Linux, and migrating the files would be too much hassle.
      But maybe, later…

Edit: Fixed the date. Apparently 2020 was 3 years ago…

Same with a little game I made with unity. Only need to fix a couple of stuff and do a nice UI.

Well now I would need to redo it with Godot.

Ah yes, another self diagnosed ADHD trait. It’s just so quirky, amirite?!?

I hate seeing so many people stating they have ADHD while they have just self diagnosed it without consulting any doctor. People actually having ADHD suffer from these kind of people because everyone thinks it’s funny, quirky and cool to have.

Sorry for the rant, I took more time to write this then I wanted 😵‍💫

Y’know, you’re breaking HIPAA by talking about this online.

Oh wait, you’re not her doctor? Then how exactly do you know anything about this?

Yeah there’s human quirks and there are quirks turned up to 11 so they’ve become something else.

I’m really tired of randoms using psychological jargon without any training, and I’m just some dumbass in therapy with no actual skills.

“Oh you have adhd do you well I forget things and get excited too what’s your point?”

“Well yeah Debra we all pee too but if you pee 60 times a day usually that means something’s wrong and you should see a doctor”

A professional charges $200/hr, so we get seen a few times per year at most.

I’ve fucking read the relevant chapters of the DSM V more times than she has. This isn’t the dark ages, this is the information age. Stop gatekeeping knowledge, bitch. I know myself and my symptoms better than she does, because I fucking live with myself and she’s just that annoying not-relative that comes in and after half-hour solves all my problems and tells me how to live my life and then “WOW I’M HEALED THANKS SO MUCH” —now fuck off and write my scrip so I don’t have to go to the darkweb for my shit that I hate but enables my neurodivergent mind to function in in the way that’s at least partially compatible with this fucked up society.

Dude just fuck off. I’ve been on a waiting list for literally 6 years.

If you want to give me the £5k I would need for a private diagnosis, I’ll happily take it, but if not just please stfu.
