This movement is nothing short of incredible. Not only are we fighting against the current administrations failures and dark intentions, we are fighting for so much more. There is a wide arrange of issues that we are also focused on including political corruption and government reform. When we win, and if we play our cards right, not only will we overcome the current situation but we can shift American politics forever, for the better.

However, I am extremely worried that the leadership of the Democratic Party is going to try to use this movement to their advantage. Ever since Donald Trump started his second administration the party have not put up any effort to fight until recently (somewhat). Now after everything that is going on, now after seeing what the American people are doing together, they want to fight? Where were they months ago when Donald Trump was firing federal employees nationwide? Where were they when mass deportations started? Where the hell were they? And I understand that there are progressives in the Democratic party that are committed to the freedom of the people, but unfortunately, the parties leadership does not have that.

This movement should purely be based off the will of the people. Please don’t let party take credit, please don’t let the complacent gain popularity, please vote for newer people in primaries. We cannot go back. We must move forward.

Edit: I will not bundle progressive candidates into all this. It is important to primary the corruption within our leadership and put anti corrupt likeminded progressives into the Democratic leadership 💚 (Also please KEEP CIVIL in the comments. All eyes on the enemy.)

I agree. I was really irritated when I saw on PBS Newshour “Politics Monday” that Amy Walter and Tamara Keith kept saying the protests Saturday were the “Democrats” protesting. NO, we are the people.

I saw a post on Mastodon (can’t find it again now) but they were talking about some protests they’d done in the past in Germany where their policy was to not let politicians speak, just victims and regular people.

I think that’s a good idea. Our protests are not a photo op for career politicians. But as you say, if there are new people (not already politicians) now deciding to run for office, they could speak – if they are genuine, not just putting on an act. We had one of those (well maybe she was sincere but thought she had to “play the game”) speak at our Hands Off event, just saying the usual talking points, and the crowd barely responded to her, while several regular people who spoke from the heart before and after her got huge applause and support.

I noticed Fox and friends doing a lot of this kind of shit. I think they realize that convincing people that “protester = Democrat” is a way to quickly take some of the wind out of the movement’s sails.

I’m sure they do, and I think it’s also just the way media people think. In their world there are only republicans and democrats and it’s all a game. They report on which of the two is winning or losing today and what are the approval ratings of each, and in most cases, spin events in favor of the side they prefer.
