One of the benefit of running your server on a potato is you become super conscious of the storage use.
Apparently the space used by pict-rs grew by 1.8GB since last week, which I thought was impossible since it’s a private instance and I don’t even post anything from there.
I took a look into volumes/pictrs/files/ and I found all kinds of random images. Even the image from this post https://burggit.moe/post/37091 somehow ended up on my own instance.
I thought the medias are not supposed to be federated or am I missing something here?
Well… That’s concerning. I definitely don’t want our instance to do that. Does mousing over an image on our instance that’s browsed from yours show our domain or yours?
The image is still served from https://burggit.moe/pictrs/image/9a1daab1-0187-447e-aaa5-b742ccfeb05d.png when viewing the federated post from my own instance.
Might be related: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2947#issuecomment-1595730459 .It’s weird how it’s doing it with my instance though. But my setup is pretty unique.
E: dang you beat me to it.
In any case. This will probably be addressed at some point. It’s kinda stupid though to do this without warning the end user, IMO.
Not to quite sure/100% looked into this. But I remember reading somewhere that the stuff you post on lemmy instances are basically copied over to other instances. Then lets say I decided today to delete my stuff from here, it will still live on another instance somewhere.
Don’t quote me tho please 🙏
Looks like I’m not the only running into this https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3163#issuecomment-1595731479
