when i make a post in my language its not there, so how do i add it? thx :)
Try going to settings and clicking on the checkbox pof each language there. You can do this most efficiently by repeatedly alternating between pressing SPACE and TAB on your keyboard.
Remember to save the settings in the end!
Currently, PieFed builds it’s list of languages as posts arrive from other instances. So if there has never been a post in your language before then you can’t make a post in your language.
We need to build an admin interface which will let us pre-populate the languages list… For now I can manually add it. What is your language?
Austrian :) thanks! (not austrian german*)
Ah. We have a problem.
To transmit the language of a post to other fediverse instances, we need to encode the language as a IETF language tag. For example, English = ‘en’, Spanish is ‘es’ and so on. German is ‘de’.
There is no official language code for Austrian. There is one for Austrian-German, which is ‘de-AT’. PieFed could use that.
The language code for Bavarian is ‘bar’, which would also be ok.
In Lemmy their database that stores languages has a fixed size for the language code, which is 3. So ‘de-AT’ would not fit and it is likely that any post written in that language would be rejected by every Lemmy instance or incorrectly saved as English or “Undetermined”. Lemmy should accept Bavarian, though.
So your choices are German or Bavarian, sorry.
if you could add it as Austro-Bavarian (bar) (“Österreichisch-Bairisch”) thx! :)
I have added “Bairisch”. We need to be compatible with other servers so it’s not really up to me to decide what bar is.
thx!! :)
yes bavarian is ok. my dialect is actually a dialect of the bavarian language/language family. bavarian is is often called austro-bavarian because its spoken in austria and most of bavaria and sout tyrol :)
if you could add it as Austro-Bavarian (bar) that would be nice. Thank you :) (or “Österreichisch-Bairisch” [Bairisch with i not Bayrisch*, because this only applies to Bavaria which is called Bayern; Baiern Ducy back then was all of Austria, Bavaria and SouthTyrol compined])
Austrian
Just out of curiosity, is that what Wikipedia calls Austro-Bavarian?
yes! :)
