Been all over Michigan and love their camping locations!

Anyone want to share their favorites if they don’t mind? Been camping in the western portion near Manistee and also all the way east near the border, to up in the UP. So no where is too far!

If you’re up for driving to the end of the state and have a vehicle that can handle the trail, High Rock Bay at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula is a nice place to camp. The trail is rough, though. You’ll want a Subaru, Jeep, truck, or something else with a bit of off road prowess. But since it’s so far out there and the trail so rough, not many people go there.

Seems like this is a great spot based on the suggestions! Will definitely consider a trip out there this year then.

Looks like this was a while ago, but I just joined lemmy, so I’ll throw my $0.02 here.

I went to Michigan tech, so all my spots are in the UP.

I camped at High Rock Bay (tip of the keewenaw) with some friends last year, that was a great spot! It’s a dusty 1 lane washboard road to get there, so take your time.

I do some astrophotography, so I’ve spend many a nights at Breakers, schoolcraft beach, eagle harbor, copper harbor, brockway, and along the shore of lake superior (roadside parks). I’m sure there’s some actual camping locations at / near those.

As a side note, the northern lights have been increasing in activity and intensity over the past year, so a camping trip to the UP may be worth it!

When you say car camp, do you mean like in an RV? Or “glamping”?

If it is just the essense of travelling and sleeping with minimal stuff in your car, then there are some places up in Manistee National Forest where I have done exactly that as well.

Not RV, just want to throw a mattress in the back of my car and just sleep in it while I explore. Are there rules or can you just drive into the forest and park somewhere?
