If someone is poor now, our culture injects the hope that they can work their way out of it. On top of that, success is seen as the result of choices. So poverty must also be the result of choices. Until our society admits poverty is really hard to escape, and success depends on luck and rich parents, the rich are going to keep eating us.
That’s the subtle genius of our system.
